2/13/2020, Part 2!!

Of course, Hubert has to fully break from his chrysalis while I’m in class, unable to witness it. But I am not upset in the slightest! Hubert is finally a butterfly (which means the name of this blog will be changing as of today), and sooner than I had expected! I remember my prediction last week that by the upcoming week (which would’ve been this Saturday), he would be out of the chrysalis. My prediction is incorrect, as he is out two days sooner than that! And I could not be happier!

Now, there is some red stuff at the bottom of the cup.

According to this website, http://www.lucysbutterflyfarm.com/plcare.html , this is called meconium. Meconium is a fluid that butterflies use to pump their wings. The wings start off floppy and wet as they come out of the chrysalis. Getting rid of this meconium will dry off the wings so that they are able to fly.

I am very excited for Hubert’s journey to continue as a butterfly! He started off so small, and now, he looks majestic. Stay tuned for more information!
